1) Tune Up you Furnace
Make sure your house is nice and cozy for the cool season! A tune-up for your furnance is the easiest way to make sure its operating optimally and to save money on your heating bill. Most tune-ups confirm that your furnace is properly adjusted, lubricated, and clean. Schedule a service in the fall before the cold season.

2) Check windows and Doors
Cracked or broken window can cause the chill in your home just as much as a run down furnace! Double check the caulking and weather stripping on each door and window. Swap out any damaged window with energy efficient thermal glass to save even more!

3) Rearrange the Room
Get a precise reading of your living space by not putting loghts or heat producing appliances by the thermostat.  These can cause your furnace to cut off prematurely.

4) Reverce Ceiling Fans
Reverce the direction of your ceiling fans to rotate clockwise to help push down warm air. You can usually find a directional switch on the side of the fan. This will heat the room more evenly and shorten the time the heater has to work, saving you money!

5) Clean Dirty Furnace Filter
Replace disposable or wash reusable furnace at least 4 times a year to cut down on dust, and enhance your system’s performance.

6) Account for Extra Family
Large crowds are sure to generate extra heat. Set the thermostat a few degrees lower than usual when entertaining family and friends.

7) Open Interior Doors
Traveling for the Holidays? Opening all interior doors including closets and pantries will help warm air circulate throughout the house. This will limit the chance of cold spots and pipes freezing while you are away. Another money saving tip is to turn down the temperatures of your furnace and hot water heater.

8) Set the Thermostat
There’s no use having a warm home if you aren’t there to enjoy it! Save come money and lower the temperature of your thermostat while you are on vacation. Just make sure it’s warm enough to keep pipes form freezing as well as plants and
indoor pets comfortable.
